Billie Jean King Library

Billie Jean King Main Library

Long Beach learned in 2006 its main Library, a key part of the City’s Civic Center, had major seismic issues. Over the years there were minor structural solutions to minimize the issues and keep the building open to the public, but a permanent solution was needed. This solution was a financially innovative Public–Private Partnership with Plenary Edgemore and Clark Construction to build a new 93,000-square foot main Library with no new taxes or fees. The new main Library opened in September of 2019 and was named after Long Beach civil rights trail blazer and icon, Billie Jean King.
